GarageBand

Available on Mac for free (and downloadable for PC), GarageBand is the ultimate beginner software for anyone wanting to try beat making. It’s clean and easy to use. If you do run into problems, there are more than enough tutorials online to help you. GarageBand allows for multiple tracks and contains a beat producer as well as lots of samples. The software also offers many effects and mixing tools to create your own unique beat. With a little practice, anyone can create a masterpiece.


MuseScore

The easy to use interface of MuseScore is compatible with Mac as well as Windows. It’s great for beginners and offers a lot of helpful resources to get you started composing, editing and mixing music. The interface is easy to use and offers a wide variety of tools and effects to help you create, edit and mix your own music and beats. There are many sample tracks to choose from as well as various instruments to play around with. There’s always something new to learn in LMMS.


orDrumbox

orDrumbox is supported on Mac, Windows and Linux. It’s mainly a drum machine but has some other fancy features to make creating music fast, fun and effortless. The software has a lot of automatic features including automatic sounds, track matching and auto-composition. It can also compose bass lines and melodic patterns automatically as well as complete songs for you. These are great tools when it comes to experimentation. orDrumbox isn’t all automatic though. It has a sound database that you can browse through and synths to add to them.


Tracktion T7

Tracktion T7 is supported on Mac, Windows and Linux. It offers older versions of the software for free and users can upgrade for a price if they want the newest version. Tracktion T7 is not the best software for beginners although it’s still simple to use if you know what you’re doing. This fully featured DWA has everything you need from plugins to effects to modifiers. Compose, record, edit and mix an unlimited number of tracks and create outstanding music in no time.
